What is the best Rustins finish for Exterior use?

This will depend on what type of timber you are treating and what finish you would prefer. Rustins exterior wood oils and Rustins outdoor varnish are very high-quality products that can withstand weather conditions if cared for correctly. Rustins Yacht Varnish comes in a satin finish or gloss. It offers extremely good protection and durability to exterior wood as it has been designed for use on marine items and boats. It is a very popular outdoor varnish as it creates a durable weather resistant finish.

Can you use Rustins oils on kitchen worktops?

Yes, there are a few options on offer for this purpose. The most popular is Rustins Danish Oil as it can be used on all types of wood and is a traditional product that has been used over decades. It is very easy to apply and will enhance the warmth of the timber worktop. It creates a matt, natural finish that can be easily maintained. The other option is Rustins Worktop Oil. This creates a durable and water-resistant finish that is also resistant to scratching or chipping. These are both clear finishes that will enhance the natural colour of the wood. If you want to add a tinted colour to the timber worktop, then we do offer Osmo Top Oil. This comes in seven different shades so you can tint your worktop to a darker shade.

Can I use Rustins products to renovate my antiques?

Rustins do offer a variety of products for restoring your antiques from Rustins French polish to refinish your wood to Rustins ring remover for removing unsightly water marks in your wood. If you are looking to revive the original finish on your antique, then you are best to use a polish reviver first. This will revive and restore the original finish ready for waxing. If the original finish is beyond repair then you can use Strypit to remove the old finish. You can then use Rustins wood dye / wood stain to colour the wood to a suitable shade. Once the stain has fully dried, it is recommended to seal with Rustins sanding sealer and then you can finish with the French polish or wax finish.

What products do you recommend to restore my metal?

Depending on the type of metal you are looking to renovate, Rustins do have a large range of products to choose from. If your metal is rusty, you first need to prepare the metals before adding a protective coating. Rustins Rust Remover can help remove surface rust from mild steel and iron.  It can also be used to clean Brass and Chrome. If your metal has bad surface rust then you can use Rustins Rust Converter. This product helps to neutralise rust and stabilise the surface, creating a protective barrier against the elements. This will prepare your surface ready to apply a rustins metal paint or similar finish. Rustins black paint is ideal for most interior or exterior use or there are more unique finishes like rustins quick dry blackboard black. If you are dealing with more decorative interior metal, then there is an option to use rustins brass restorer as this will help in the removal of tarnish on smaller brass objects like brass handles or a letter box. For larger items, I would suggest priory polishes brass cleaning solution. Once the brass is clean you can add a protective layer like Rustins metal lacquer or a Jade oil.
