Our restoration kits bring together complementary products for specific restoration and finishing projects. Rather than purchasing each material separately, a kit provides a convenient selection of the products needed for a particular job, whether you are restoring antique furniture, French polishing, working on a clock or preparing and repairing wooden surfaces.
Our range includes kits for antique furniture restoration, clock restoration, clock dial silvering, French polishing, wood stripping, liming, wood filling and floor maintenance.
Our Antique Furniture Polishing Restoration Kit is designed for cleaning, reviving, repairing and finishing suitable antique and vintage wooden furniture without automatically stripping the existing finish.
The kit combines Polish Reviver, Liquid Wax, Finishing Wax, wax filler sticks, ultra-fine 0000 steel wire wool and cotton buffing cloths. It is intended for projects where the aim is to improve the appearance of the existing finish while retaining the character of the furniture.
Clock restoration often involves several different stages, from cleaning the movement and lubricating suitable components to reviving the clock case. Our Clock Restoration Kit brings together clock case restorer, clock cleaning concentrate, clock oil, finishing wax, wax fillers, 0000 steel wool and buffing cloths.
We also offer a dedicated Clock Dial Silvering Restoration Kit containing silvering powder, finishing powder, silver/brass lacquer and black engravers wax for clock dial and chapter ring restoration.
For traditional furniture finishing, our French Polishing Kit contains the principal materials needed to begin a French polishing project. It includes shellac sanding sealer, shellac French polish, raw linseed oil, fabric for making a polishing rubber and a French polishing brush.
A complete kit can be particularly useful if you are new to French polishing or want to have the main materials together before starting a restoration project.
When an existing finish needs to be removed before refinishing, a suitable wood stripping kit can provide the main materials and tools required for the preparation stage.
Our Wood Stripping Kit includes a stripping knife, wood stripper, wax and polish remover and Grade 2 steel wool. It is intended for preparing suitable wooden surfaces before further restoration or refinishing.
Small scratches, dents, holes and chips can often be repaired using suitable wood filler sticks. Our hard and soft wax filler sets contain a selection of colours that can be mixed where necessary to help achieve a closer match to the surrounding timber.
Hard wax fillers are particularly useful for more robust repairs, while soft wax fillers can be useful for smaller repairs to furniture and other wooden surfaces.
For decorative wood finishing, our Liberon Liming Kit contains a bronze liming brush, Liberon Liming Wax and Clear Wax Polish. The brush is used to open the grain of suitable timber before applying liming wax to create a decorative limed appearance.
We also stock specialist kits for wood finishing, worktops and floors, including Osmo application and maintenance products. These kits can provide the appropriate combination of application or maintenance materials for specific wood-finishing projects.
Always check the individual kit description to make sure it is suitable for your particular timber, existing finish and intended application.
The right kit depends on what you are restoring and the stage of the project you are at. A furniture restoration kit is designed for a different purpose from a French polishing kit, while a clock dial silvering kit contains specialist materials that would not be required for general furniture restoration.
Before choosing a kit, consider whether you are cleaning and reviving an existing finish, repairing damaged wood, stripping an old finish, applying a new finish or carrying out specialist clock restoration.
Where possible, retain a sound original finish rather than stripping it unnecessarily, particularly when working on antique or historically important pieces. Always read the individual product instructions and test products on a small, inconspicuous area where appropriate.
Buying a kit can be a convenient way to start a restoration project because the main products have already been selected for a particular application. Our range includes both traditional restoration kits and modern wood-care kits, allowing you to choose according to the material, finish and type of restoration work required.
For larger or more specialist projects, individual restoration products are also available throughout the Priory Polishes range, allowing you to supplement a kit with additional materials as required.
