Wood Finishes and Restoration Products

Choosing the right finish can make a significant difference to the appearance and durability of wooden furniture, flooring and other timber surfaces. Our range of wood finishes and restoration products covers many different stages of wood care, from cleaning and reviving an existing finish through to staining, polishing, oiling and applying a new protective coating.

Wood Oils

Wood oils are used on many types of timber to enhance the natural appearance of the wood while providing a suitable protective finish. Our range includes Danish oil, hard wax oil and other wood oils for furniture, flooring and general woodworking applications.

Clear and coloured oils are available, allowing you to either retain the natural appearance of the timber or alter and enhance its colour.

Wood Wax and Furniture Polish

Wood waxes and furniture polishes are commonly used to finish, maintain and enhance wooden furniture and decorative woodwork. Traditional beeswax and paste waxes can provide a natural-looking finish, while coloured and specialist waxes can also be used for particular restoration and finishing projects.

French Polish and Shellac Finishes

For traditional furniture restoration and fine wood finishing, our range includes French polish, shellac polish and sanding sealer. These products are particularly relevant to traditional furniture finishing and restoration where a polished shellac finish is required.

We also stock French polishing kits and associated materials for those carrying out restoration work themselves.

Wood Stains and Coloured Finishes

Wood stains and coloured finishes can be used to change or enhance the colour of suitable timber before applying a compatible protective finish. The final appearance can vary according to the type, age and condition of the wood, so testing on an inconspicuous area is recommended before treating the whole surface.

Wood Varnishes and Protective Finishes

Varnishes and other protective finishes can be used where a harder surface coating is required. The most suitable finish depends on the type of timber, the location of the item and the appearance and level of protection required.

Wood Restoration and Furniture Care

For antique and period furniture, restoration does not always mean completely refinishing the wood. Products such as polish revivers, furniture restorers and traditional wax polishes can be useful when the aim is to clean, revive or maintain an existing finish while retaining the character of the piece.

For more extensive restoration, we also offer specialist products and kits for French polishing, furniture restoration and other wood-finishing projects.

Choosing the Right Wood Finish

The right product depends on the type of wood, its existing finish and the result you want to achieve. Consider whether you need to clean and revive an existing finish, add colour, apply an oil or wax, or create a new protective coating.

Always check the individual product instructions for suitability before applying a finish, particularly when working on antique furniture, previously finished timber or valuable items.
