How to use Antiquax Original Wax Polish

Before applying Antiquax Original Wax Polish, make sure the surface is clean and dry. The wax can be applied to previously finished and previously waxed surfaces. For best results initially clean the surface with Priory polishes polish reviver.

  1. Apply the wax sparingly using a soft, lint-free cloth.
  2. Work the polish into the wood in a circular motion, following the grain where appropriate.
  3. Allow the wax to dry to a light haze.
  4. Buff the surface using a clean, dry wax buffing cloth.
  5. Apply a second coat if a higher sheen is required, allowing you to buff between coats.

For the best results and to help prevent a blotchy appearance, bare timber should be properly prepared and sealed with a suitable varnish, oil or sanding sealer before waxing.

Using Antiquax on antique furniture

Antiquax Original Wax Polish is particularly well suited to antique furniture restoration. It can help revive tired-looking wood while enhancing the existing grain and patina rather than dramatically changing the appearance of the furniture.

It can be used on many types of fine natural wood and is suitable for items such as tables, chairs, wardrobes, dressers and sideboards.

When working on valuable or delicate antique furniture, always test the product on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure you are happy with the result.

What should I do if my Antiquax wax has dried out?

The ideal application temperature is approximately 15°C to 25°C.

My old can of antiquax seems to have dried out, it is difficult to apply. Is there any solvent I could add to make it easier to apply?

Unfortunately once the wax has dried out, there is no solvents you can safely add to make this usable again. The main reason is, if the solvent has not been mixed correctly it may damage your surface, so it is best to dispose of this and get a new can. This wax will last for years if stored correctly in a cool dry place with the lid tightly on.

Re-apply when necessary.

  1. Michael Holland

The product range offered by this company is clearly aimed at the professional and those amateur craftsmen who are attempting to achieve a professional standard in their work. I have used ‘Antiquax’ on my oak furniture for nearly 40 years but it has now become impractical to reach my former supplier. I have also used ‘Liberon’ for many years and it was heartening to discover that I can obtain both ranges from this source.
‘Priory Waxes’ is new to me but I have every reason to believe that it’s range will be of the same standard.
Having encountered a problem in trying to complete my transaction on line, the lady who answered my telephone call took the order and payment by telephone, assuring me that the goods would be despatched the same day in consequence of which they arrived by tracked delivery two days later.
This company will be my ‘go to’ for such products”

    Regards from Michael Holland.
