How to Use Osmo Polyx Oil Effect Raw

  1. The wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 18%).
  2. Osmo Polyx Oil Effect Raw is ready to use. Do not thin.
  3. Stir well before use.
  4. Clean old micro-porous stains thoroughly. Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed.
  5. As a general rule, wear a dust mask during sanding works.
  6. Fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in wood with a Wood Filler.
  7. Sand wood surfaces carefully. Begin with coarse sandpaper – final sanding work for flooring P120- 150, for furniture P180-240.
  8. Before oiling the surface, remove sanding dust with a broom or vacuum cleaner.
  9. The finished surface is influenced by several factors, including the condition of the wood. Therefore, a trial application is always required, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.
  10. Apply with with Osmo Flat Brush or Osmo Floor Brush.
  11. Apply thinly along the wood grain and spread well.
  12. Allow to dry for approx. 24 hours under good ventilation.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Once your surfaces have been treated with Osmo Polyx Oil Raw, it is recommended to use the surface as little as possible for around 1 week to fully cure. It is not recommended to regular household cleaners as they are not designed to clean oiled wooden surfaces and can damage them over time. Remove dust and dirt by vacuum cleaner or broom. For regular daily cleaning on wood floors, it is recommended to use Osmo Wash and Care. Simply add the Wash and Care to water and clean the floor with a damp (not wet) mop and wipe dry immediately. For wood surfaces like furniture or worktops use Osmo Spray Cleaner as this will clean your wooden surfaces without removing any oils and waxes, so will not dry the wood out. This will also remove many minor marks. It is also recommended to dust on a regular basis using a plain lint free cloth. If you accidentally scratch or damage the finish, you can either lightly sand the affected area and re-apply the same wood oil that you originally used. For lighter marks or scuffs, this can usually be cleaned by using Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner in the White tint (3087).

Please note

Clean tools with Osmo Brush Cleaner (free of aromatic compounds).

The drying time is approximately 24 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23 °C/50 % rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher air humidity can increase the drying time.

Ventilate well while drying.

After 2-3 weeks, surface is fully cured.

Store up to 5 years and longer if can is kept dry and closed tightly. If thickened by frost, store for 24-36 hours at room temperature before use.

Polyx®-Oil Effect Raw protects wood nearly invisibly. On dark/reddish wood species, the oil is visible as slightly white chalky surface.

Applying the product too generously and insufficient ventilation lead to delays in drying time and the typical smell of oil.

Any brushstrokes can be removed with an unused dry Microfibre Roller within 30 minutes after applying.

The natural colour tone of wood is preserved , it does not enhance the tone of wood, no permanent wet effect.

A trial application is always recommended.

The coverage of 1 litre covers approx. 30 m² with one coat. Coverage depends significantly on the condition of the wood. All information refers to smooth and planed/ sanded surfaces. Other surfaces may lead to differences in coverage

For extractive rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Merbau, Jatoba etc.), we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. A trial application is recommended.

Apply max. one coat thinly to cabinet interiors and drawers with an osmo cloth.

Dispose of leftover product and completely emptied packaging according to local official guidelines (waste code number 08 01 11). Only completely emptied cans can be recycled.

Questions and Answers

How long does it take for Osmo Polyx Oil Raw 3044 to dry?

It is recommended to leave Polyx Oil Raw 3044 to dry for 24 hours between coats. Always allow the oil to dry in warm conditions in a well ventilated room as colder conditions can take longer to dry. As two coats are recommended you need around 48 hours to dry for both coats but it can take around 10 – 14  days for the oil to fully cure.

Will Osmo Polyx Oil Raw make my timber look white?

As long as this is applied correctly then the timber should not look white, but it will look more like the natural colour. Osmo Polyx Oil Raw does contain small amounts of white pigments so the key is to apply this thinly and stir thoroughly throughout use. If too much is applied and not evenly, then sometimes the white pigment can remain on the surface. This can create a patchy or milky appearance. If you apply thinly then the white will not be visible. This is also mainly for use on lighter timbers like Oak and Pine as if applied onto darker woods, then the timber may dry with a white tint.

Is Osmo Polyx Oil Raw a Matt finish?

Yes this is a matt finish so will look nearly invisible on the wood with little sheen but still offer superb protection. It’s a really good product to keep the natural appearance of the timber, it keeps the grain visible but still offers a water and stain resistant finish.

What wood types is it not suitable for?

Polyx Oil Raw is specifically formulated for use on either sanded or untreated wood surfaces. However, it is important to note that this product is not appropriate for use on darker wood varieties or any wood that has undergone smoking or fuming processes. This ensures optimal performance and finish quality when applied to the correct types of wood.

What might happen to wood treated with Osmo Wood Protector 4006 before applying Osmo Polyx Oil 3044 Raw?

When treating wood with Osmo Wood Protector 4006 followed by an application of Osmo Polyx Oil 3044 Raw, it’s possible that the wood might appear slightly darker than expected. This change in coloration can happen as a result of the initial treatment with the Wood Protector. To ensure that the final outcome is satisfactory, it’s highly recommended to perform a test application of the Polyx Oil Raw on a small, inconspicuous area of the wood already treated with the Wood Protector first. This test will help confirm that the overall finish aligns with your expectations before proceeding with the full application.
