Description

Fiddes Clear Glaze is a durable high build interior varnish that comes in a Matt or Satin sheen. It is specially formulated for application onto interior wood floors, doors, skirting boards, panels and joinery around the home to enhance the natural beauty and grain of the timber. It can also be used on work surfaces like kitchen worktops. It produces a highly durable water and stain resistant finish.

How to use Fiddes Clear Glaze

1. Ensure the wood is clean, dry and free from any previous finish including wax and oil.
2. Fill any gaps or splits in the wood with Fiddes Wood Filler Gel
3. Sand the wood with a fine grand sanding paper in the direction of the grain and remove any dust.
4. Stir well before use
5. Apply thinly using a natural bristled brush in the direction of the grain, in a warm well ventilated room.
6. Leave to dry 6 hours in warm, dry well ventilated conditions.
7. Stir thoroughly prior and periodically during application.
8. 2 coats are recommended on hardwood and a maximum of 3 coats on softwood or more porous timber. You can de-nib between coats.

Questions and Answers

Can Fiddes Clear Glaze be applied on top of any previous finish?

No, Clear Glaze can only be applied to interior bare wood that has no previous finish. You can not apply this to any exterior wood, it is for interior wood only.

How many coats of Clear Glaze should I apply?

It is recommended to apply 2 coats on hardwood and 3 coats on softwood. This can be applied with a brush or roller. It is not recommended to spray this Varnish as this can lead to an uneven finish.

Can you thin Fiddes Clear Glaze?

Fiddes Clear Glaze is ready to use and should not need to be thinned, but you can thin this varnish with the maximum of 10% White Spirit.

How long does Fiddes Clear Glaze take to dry and cure?

This wood varnish will usually take around 4-6 hours to dry in warm conditions but it will take around 7 days to fully cure. If you leave for 7 days before use, this will offer maximum durability to the finish.

Where can Fiddes Clear Glaze be used.

Fiddes Clear Glaze Wood Varnish can be used on wood floors, doors, skirting boards and on wood in bathrooms. The final cured finish will offer a water-resistant finish that is heat and stain resistant, so ideal for protection against hot drinks or alcohol.

Can you use this wood varnish on top of a wood dye?

Yes, you can use this wood varnish on top of a suitable wood dye as long as the wood dye has fully dried before application.

How long will Fiddes Clear Glaze last in the tin once opened?

This will last approximately 12-18 months in the tin if sealed correctly.
