Description
Osmo Polyx Oil Clear has been specifically formulated for use on wooden flooring and furniture. It comes in a Clear, Glossy, Satin, Semi-Matt or Matt wood finish that uniquely combines the advantages of natural oils and waxes in one product. Osmo Tints can be used with this product and are available here. Osmo Polyx Oil Original Clear is stain-resistant, water repellent, abrasion-resistant and results in a surface that is pleasant to the touch. In comparison to conventional finishes, the use of plant ingredients creates a more even colour and a more harmonious appearance. It offers simple application, without primer or intermediate sanding, saving time and money. It is suitable for wood and the microporous surface will not crack, peel, flake or blister. It is resistant against wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juice, milk and water in accordance with German DIN 68861-1A – no water spots. The dry finish is safe for humans, animals and plants (resistant to saliva and perspiration acc. German DIN 53160, suitable for children‘s toys acc. EN 71.3).
Osmo Polyx Oil Original is ideal for the protection of all wooden floors, such as solid wood, plank, strip, OSB and cork flooring, as well as furniture surfaces. It is based on natural plant oils and waxes (sunflower oil, soya oil, thistle oil, carnauba wax and candelilla wax), paraffin, siccatives (drying agents) and water-repellent additives. Dearomatized white spirit (benzene-free).

How to Use Osmo Polyx Oil Clear Original
- The wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 18%).
- Osmo Polyx Oil Original is ready to use. Do not thin.
- Stir well before use.
- Clean old microporous stains thoroughly.
- Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed.
- As a general rule, wear a dust mask during sanding works.
- Fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in wood with a Wood Filler.
- Sand wood surfaces carefully. Begin with coarse sandpaper – final sanding work for flooring P120- 150, for furniture P180-240. We offer a wide selection of sanding paper options here.
- Before oiling the surface, remove sanding dust with a broom or vacuum.
- The finished surface is influenced by several factors, including the condition of the wood. Therefore, a trial application is always required, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.
- Apply with an Osmo Flat Brush or Osmo Floor Brush.
- Apply thinly along the wood grain and spread well.
- Allow to dry for approx. 8-10 hours under good ventilation.
- After drying, quickly apply a second coat also thinly.
- When renovating or re-coating an already oiled surface, one coat applied to the clean and dry surface is usually sufficient.
- The drying time is approximately 8-10 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23 °C/ 50 % rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher air humidity can increase the drying time. Ventilate well while drying.
- It will be approximately 2-3 weeks until the the surface is fully cured.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Once your surfaces have been treated with Osmo Polyx Oil Clear, it is recommended to use the surface as little as possible for around 1 week to fully cure. It is not recommended to regular household cleaners as they are not designed to clean oiled wooden surfaces and can damage them over time. Remove dust and dirt by vacuum cleaner or broom. For regular daily cleaning on wood floors, it is recommended to use Osmo Wash and Care. Simply add the Wash and Care to water and clean the floor with a damp (not wet) mop and wipe dry immediately. For wood surfaces like furniture or worktops, use Osmo Spray Cleaner as this will clean your wooden surfaces without removing any oils and waxes, so will not dry the wood out. This will also remove many minor marks. It is also recommended to dust on a regular basis using a plain lint free cloth. If you accidentally scratch or damage the finish, you can either lightly sand the affected area and re-apply the same wood oil that you originally used. For lighter marks or scuffs, this can usually be cleaned by using Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner.
Finishes Available
3011 CLEAR, GLOSSY
This clear finish is ideal if you are looking for a higher sheen where the light reflects from the finished coat of wood oil.
3032 CLEAR, SATIN
This clear finish offers a more delicate sheen and is most popular in the range as it enhances the natural grain of the wood.
3062 CLEAR, MATT
This clear finish offers a more natural look of the wood with no or very little sheen. This is ideal if you are looking for a more natural look and feel.
3065 CLEAR, SEMI-MATT
This clear finish has been carefully developed to create a balanced sheen between matt and satin. Osmo is one of the only companies who offer this unique wood oil sheen and is really popular due to the mix between a natural finish with a very slight soft lustre.

Please note
Coverage – 1 litre covers approx. 24 m² with one coat. Coverage depends significantly on the condition of the wood. All information refers to smooth and planed/sanded surfaces. Other surfaces may lead to differences in coverage.
Storage – Store up to 5 years and longer if can is kept dry and closed tightly. If thickened by frost, store for 24-36 hours at room temperature before use.
Oils enhance the natural tone of wood (permanent wet effect). Applying the product too generously and insufficient ventilation leads to delays in drying. For dark and extractive-rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Merbau, Jatoba etc.), we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. A trial application is recommended.
For cork surfaces, due to their high absorbency please ensure that the wood finish is applied especially thinly. On cork, longer drying times are to be taken into consideration (at least 24 hours).
Apply max. one coat thinly to cabinet interiors and drawers with a cloth.
Wood surfaces treated with Polyx Oil Clear are easy to maintain. Remove debris with a broom or a vacuum cleaner. To clean, add Osmo Wash and Care concentrate to mop water and clean the surface with a damp (not wet!) mop.
To refresh and clean intensively, use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner when necessary. If a higher gloss level is desired, after thoroughly drying apply Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner thinly and polish when dry.
Questions and Answers
What is Osmo Polyx Oil used for?
Is Osmo Polyx Oil suitable for kitchen worktops?
Is Osmo Polyx Oil suitable for wooden doors?
Can this Wood Oil be used on all types of wood?
Can Polyx Oil be used in wet areas such as bathrooms or kitchens?
Can Polyx Oil be used on MDF?
Can you use this on an Oak Fireplace?
Yes, you can use Osmo Polyx Oil to apply onto an oak fireplace but when you use wood oils around heat, it can dry out quicker over time. This means you will need to apply more regular, thin coats to act as a moisturiser to the wood and stop it drying out. This will also ensure you keep a protective coat to your wood. You can simply lightly apply the wood oil using a lint free cloth on regular intervals and this should keep your wood and finish in good condition.
We have 15 year old high quality cork flooring. Can we use OSMO to re-seal and brighten it?
Yes, you can apply Osmo Polyx Oil Clear onto Cork floors. If there is any existing finish, you will need to very carefully sand this to key up the surface with a final p120 grit. With cork you do have to be very careful with sanding as it is quite grainy and is not as solid a structure as wood. Always trial an area first to ensure it sands without damage. The Polyx Clear will enhance the tone to a warm shade. With cork flooring it is also best to apply with a lint free cloth in very thin layers. It is best to apply around 3 to 5 thin layers and allow to dry between coats. Do not apply with a brush. As with all products, always test a small inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility.
