Frequently asked questions
What is a Rouge cloth?
A rouge Cloth is 100% cotton cloth infused with micro-fined Jeweller’s rouge and the finest polishing compounds, it is specially formulated to remove most tarnish on Gold and Gold-plate items. Much Like our Jewellers Rouge powder this gives a perfect Tarnish removal and shine without scratching on Sliver, Gold and Gold-plated items.
Why do rouge polishing cloths turn black?
The Rouge Polishing cloth is impregnated with professional jeweller’s rouge; a compound that cleans and removes tarnish from mostly Gold, Silver and other metals. So when you rub your piece of jewellery with the rouge cloth, the polish on the cloth leaves in that area of the cloth. Therefore, what’s left on the jeweller’s rouge cloth is a black mark, indicating that the polish has been used from that section of it.
Can Rouge cloth be washed?
As the Jeweller’s rouge Cloth is impregnated, washing the cloth will destroy its capability to prevent tarnish, as the cleaning & polishing agents including the professional ‘jeweller’s rouge’ compound will be removed from the cloth and this will no longer work for this purpose as it is no longer impregnated.
What is the best rouge polishing cloth?
We recommend using our Jeweller’s rouge Polishing cloth for items such as all types of karat Gold, White Gold and Gold-plate. Other metals such as silver can be polished using our Jeweller’s rouge cloth but different metals tarnish at different speeds therefore the Rouge cloth is much more suited to be used on gold, as the cleaning and polishing agents are specifically aimed to target this. Our Brass cloth is for polishing Brass and household metals and Silver polishing cloth for Silver & Silver-plated items due to the treatments impregnated within each type of cloth.
How does rouge cloth work?
The cloth is impregnated with micro-fined professional jeweller’s rouge; This compound cleans and removes tarnish from mostly Gold, Silver and other metals. Because this is in a cloth form and not as a paste, it is a less messy way to clean your jewellery. Like our Jewellers Rouge powder this removes most Tarnish without scratching on Gold and Gold-plated items.
Does polishing cloth remove scratches?
Our Rouge Polishing cloths help remove tarnish, fingerprints, oils, dirt, minor scratches and dullness from Gold. Rouge is a jeweller’s compound used to buff out scratches & nicks in the metal and will remove most fine scratches. For deeper scratches, we would recommend to use Rouge Powder.
