Polyvine Metallic Paint for Walls
Polyvine Metallic Paint can be used on suitable interior walls to create a luxurious decorative metallic effect.
The shimmering finish can add depth and light to feature walls, decorative areas and architectural details.

Polyvine Metallic Paint is suitable for ornate plasterwork and decorative mouldings, making it particularly useful for period properties, restoration projects and decorative effects.
Metallic paint can highlight raised details and mouldings, helping architectural features stand out.
For the best result, ensure the plasterwork is sound, clean, dry and free from dust and contamination before application.

Frequently Asked Questions
What colours are available?
Polyvine Metallic Paint is available in seven metallic colours:
- Pale Gold
- Bright Gold
- Antique Gold
- Copper
- Pewter
- Silver
- Pearl
Each colour produces its own distinctive metallic effect, from traditional gold and copper finishes to contemporary silver and pewter.
Pearl Metallic Paint is a pearlescent white metallic finish that can be used on its own or customised with Polyvine Acrylic Colourant. Adding Acrylic Colourant allows you to create your own shimmering pastel metallic colour, making Pearl particularly versatile for decorative painting projects.
Gold Metallic Paint comes in several gold colours, including Pale Gold, Bright Gold and Antique Gold. These shades can be used to create decorative gold effects on furniture, plasterwork, mouldings, ornaments, metalwork and other suitable surfaces. For projects where you want a traditional aged or antique appearance, Antique Gold provides a different character from the brighter Bright Gold and softer Pale Gold finishes.
Silver Metallic Paint provides a sleek, shimmering silver finish suitable for both interior and exterior decorative applications. Silver can be particularly effective on furniture, decorative objects, picture frames, plasterwork, metalwork and architectural details. Using a similar-coloured base coat can help improve coverage and produce a more even metallic appearance.
How Many Coats of Polyvine Metallic Paint Do You Need?
We recommend applying 2–3 coats of Metallic Paint, depending on the surface, colour and level of coverage required. Metallic paint is translucent, so the number of coats required can vary between colours and surfaces. Using a similar base coat colour can greatly increase the covering power and help produce a more even metallic finish.
How Long Does Polyvine Metallic Paint Take to Dry?
Polyvine Metallic Paint takes up to approximately 2 hours to dry, although drying time can vary depending on temperature, humidity, ventilation and the surface being painted. The re-coat time is approximately 4 hours but high temperatures and direct sunlight can affect the working and drying time.
How Much Polyvine Metallic Paint Do I Need?
Polyvine Metallic Paint provides approximately 10 square metres of coverage per litre, although actual coverage can vary depending on the colour, surface and application method. Because metallic paint is translucent and different colours have different covering abilities, it is always worth allowing for additional coats when calculating how much product you need.
Can you use Metallic Paint for Decorative Effects?
Yes, Polyvine Metallic Paint is particularly effective for decorative painting and restoration projects. It can be used to highlight architectural details, mouldings, furniture, sculptures, ornaments and other decorative surfaces. Polyvine has featured a staircase restoration at Tapton Hall in Sheffield where Pale Gold was used on mouldings and Antique Gold on railings, demonstrating how different metallic shades can be combined within a single decorative project. You can see this here.
Does Polyvine Metallic Paint need a primer?
A separate primer is not necessarily required on all suitable surfaces, but proper surface preparation is essential. Using a similar-coloured base coat can significantly improve metallic paint coverage.
Why does my Polyvine Metallic Paint look uneven?
Metallic paint is translucent, and its reflective finish can highlight differences in the background and application. We recommend using a similar base coat colour and ensuring the surface is properly prepared.
How do I get a smooth metallic finish?
Careful preparation and application are important. Brush and roller marks can be accentuated by the metallic sheen. Spray application can provide a smooth metallic surface but must be done carefully.
Please Note
- Light reflection will accentuate brush marks and imperfections in the background. The covering ability of this paint will vary with the colour.
- It is essential to do a test area before application.
- Use a similar base coat colour to greatly increase the covering power.

- Applying in high temperatures or direct sunlight will affect drying time. Do not apply when rain is imminent.
