How to Use Cream Chalk Paint

For best results, apply Annie Sloan Cream Chalk Paint with a Chalk Paint Brush or Flat Brush. Chalk Paint is designed for furniture painting and can be applied to a wide range of surfaces without extensive preparation.

Cream can be used as a single colour to create a soft, classic finish or combined with other colours to create a more decorative appearance. It works particularly well on dressers, cupboards, tables, chairs and other traditional furniture.

For a vintage or aged appearance, allow the paint to dry and then lightly sand selected areas around edges, corners and decorative details. This creates gentle wear and can give the furniture a naturally distressed appearance.

For a smooth and understated finish, apply the paint evenly with a Flat Brush. For a more textured and traditional appearance, use a Chalk Paint™ Brush and allow some of the natural brush texture to remain visible.

Once the paint has dried, protect your finished furniture with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Wax or Lacquer. Clear Wax can protect the painted finish while maintaining the warm cream colour, while darker waxes can add depth and emphasise decorative details.

One litre of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint covers approximately 13 square metres. Actual coverage will vary depending on the surface and application.

Please be aware that colours can appear differently on screen. For the most accurate representation of Cream, we recommend using a hand-painted Annie Sloan colour card or a 120ml tester pot before starting your project.

Colours That Complement Cream

Cream works particularly well with Paris Grey, French Linen, Greek Blue, Old Violet and Emperor’s Silk.

Paris Grey is particularly effective with Cream and can create a classic French-inspired furniture finish. The soft grey balances the warmth of the creamy yellow without creating a harsh contrast.

French Linen provides another understated neutral combination, while Greek Blue creates a stronger and more colourful contrast.

Old Violet adds a muted purple accent, while Emperors Silk creates a much bolder combination for statement furniture.

Cream also works beautifully with natural wood, warm neutrals and other soft colours where you want to maintain a relaxed and traditional appearance.

Customer Examples Using Cream Chalk Paint

Cream Compared with Other Annie Sloan Neutral Colours

Cream is the colour to choose when you want a warm creamy yellow rather than a stark white or cooler neutral.

Cream has a soft creamy yellow character inspired by traditional old woodwork. It is particularly suited to antique, vintage and French-style furniture.

Old White is softer and more neutral, making it a good choice when you want a traditional off-white without as much yellow warmth.

Original is a warm, slightly creamy white that resembles the colour of old painted furniture, but is lighter and less yellow than Cream.

Old Ochre is deeper and more earthy, making it better suited to aged and rustic furniture finishes.

French Linen is a muted taupe-grey that creates a more neutral and understated appearance.

Versailles has a stronger green element and is best described as a soft yellow-green rather than a cream.

This makes Cream particularly useful when you want a warm cream furniture paint that creates a traditional, welcoming and timeless appearance.
