Mylands Danish Oil – 1 Litre

Description

Mylands Danish Oil is made from a blend of Tung Oil, synthetic resins, driers and solvents to give an easy to use and apply wood oil that is suitable for most timber types. Mylands Danish Oil offers deep penetration into the timber to give it good protection as well as enhancing the natural beauty. The presence of driers in the formulation enables the Danish Oil to dry to a satin, hard, water-resistant finish (it is not tacky like some other oils). Danish Oil is suitable for both interior and exterior wood surfaces including garden furniture. As Danish Oil penetrates the timber, it gives an open grain appearance, but still gives full protection from liquids. 

How to use Mylands Danish Oil

1. Always test Danish Oil on an off-cut of timber or an inconspicuous area of furniture to check colour and finish before oiling the whole article. 
2. For previously treated timber, ensure the surface is clean before application – use steel wire wool and then wash down with White Spirit.
3. Mylands Light Fast Stains and Water Based Stains are suitable for use under this danish oil. These stains are only suitable for application to bare timber and will not take over oiled or waxed surfaces. Stains must be fully dry before application of the Danish Oil.
4. Mylands Danish Oil may be applied by rag or brush.  
5. For interior use: apply a liberal coat of oil to the surface and allow to penetrate the timber for a few minutes before wiping off the surplus with a clean cloth. Allow to dry and repeat the process until the desired build/appearance is achieved – a minimum of three coats is normally required on bare timber. 
6. To achieve a smooth finish, the final coat may be applied using fine grade 0000 wire wool in the direction of the grain and wiping off the surplus with a clean cloth. 
7. For exterior use: apply a first liberal coat and allow it to dry without wiping. 
8. Oak and softwoods are prone to weather staining from mould spores in the timber being activated by moisture. Consequently more coats will be required than for an interior situation to seal the timber effectively. 
9. End grain may require up to six coats to effectively seal. 
10. Do not apply to exterior timber if it is raining or rain is expected.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Clean oiled surfaces with a damp cloth. For more soiled surfaces a small amount of liquid detergent may be added to the water. Old or worn oiled surfaces may be refurbished by abrading the surface and applying further coats of Mylands Danish Oil as in Application above. Exterior timber will require re-oiling at least annually – horizontal areas may require more frequent re-coating.

COVERAGE – On average per litre 10-12 m2 dependant on substrate absorbancy and method of application.

DRYING TIME – Recoat time 4-6 hrs (at 20°c) Longer in cold or damp conditions. Rub down lightly with fine wire wool between coats. Do not apply if temperature is below 5°C.

STORAGE – Always replace the container lid, otherwise the oil could deteriorate. Store at a temperature above 5°C. 

CLEANING – Use White Spirit. Wash brushes immediately after use before the oil dries.

HEALTH & SAFETY Refer to the MSDS before use. Rags used should not be left rolled or screwed up as they can spontaneously combust. Either spread out to dry or put in a container with water. Tung Oil is a component of Danish Oil and is extracted from nuts, so could cause an allergic reaction
