The paste formulation is soft and easy to apply and buff, making it a popular choice for furniture restoration, antique restoration and general wood care.

How to Use Liberon Wax Polish Black Bison Paste

For the best results, always ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust before applying the wax.

  1. If the surface already has an old wax finish or accumulated dirt and grease, clean it thoroughly first. Priory Polishes Polish Reviver and very fine wire wool can be used to clean suitable previously finished surfaces before waxing.
  2. Apply Liberon Wax Polish Black Bison Paste sparingly using a soft, lint-free cotton cloth on delicate or French polished surfaces.
  3. For bare or absorbent wood where deeper penetration is required, the wax can be applied using Ultra Fine Steel Wool Grade 0000.
  4. Work the wax into the surface evenly and avoid applying an unnecessarily thick coat.
  5. Allow the wax to dry for approximately 20 minutes, or until touch dry.
  6. Buff the surface thoroughly using a wax buffing cloth or furniture brush to develop the desired sheen.
  7. New or very dry wood may require two or more thin coats. Allow each coat to dry and buff between applications.

For a richer finish and increased sheen, build the finish gradually with thin coats of wax rather than applying one heavy coat.

Liberon Black Bison Wax for Antique Furniture

Liberon Black Bison Paste Wax is particularly popular for antique furniture restoration because it can enhance the appearance of existing wood finishes while providing a traditional waxed finish.

It can be used after restoration work such as French polishing, staining or other suitable wood finishing processes. The range of coloured waxes can also be useful when you need to complement the existing colour of antique timber.

For older furniture, preparation is especially important. Removing built-up dirt, grease and old wax before applying a fresh coat can help produce a cleaner, more even finish and allow the new wax to develop a better sheen.

Black Bison Paste Wax vs Liquid Wax

Liberon Black Bison Paste Wax and Liberon Liquid Wax are both designed to nourish, polish and protect interior wood, but they are suited to slightly different applications.

The paste wax is a popular choice for furniture and restoration work where you want to build up a traditional wax finish with thin coats and buff to a rich sheen. The paste is particularly useful on smaller surfaces.

Liberon Liquid Wax Polish Black Bison is easier to spread over larger surfaces and is particularly suitable for areas such as panelling, doors and staircases.

If you are restoring antique furniture or want to build a traditional furniture wax finish, the Black Bison Paste Wax is an excellent choice.

Maintaining Waxed Furniture

Waxed furniture is simple to maintain. Regularly dust the surface with a soft, lint-free cloth or duster. When the surface begins to look dull or tired, apply another thin coat of wax and buff to restore the sheen.

Wax finishes are designed to be maintained by re-waxing when required. Avoid washing waxed furniture with water or household detergents, as this can affect the finish.

Please Note

With all waxes, it is not waterproof so do not wash the finished surface with water or household cleaners and detergents. Do not use spray dusters, simply re-wax when necessary.

We do also stock Liberon Liquid Wax Polish, this is not as durable but is extremely simple and easy to apply and buff. It is a good product for the maintenance of the surface.

Always test in a small inconspicuous area first to ensure you are happy with the results.

Always wear protective gloves when using this product.

Please note, all the Liberon Wax tins come with a small punctured hole on the lid. This is intentional so the polish can breathe.
