Liberon Natural Finish Interior Varnish is available in two finishes: Matt and Satin.

Satin provides a gentle sheen while still maintaining the natural appearance of the timber. It is a popular choice for furniture, doors, panelling and other interior woodwork.

How to Use Liberon Natural Finish Interior Varnish
Good preparation is essential when applying varnish. The surface should be clean, dry and free from dust and previous finishes.
- Remove any existing finish if necessary.
- Sand the wood to create a smooth, even surface.
- Remove all sanding dust and ensure the timber is clean and dry.
- If using a wood dye, allow the dye to dry thoroughly before applying the varnish.
- Always test the complete finishing system on a spare piece or inconspicuous area before treating the main surface.
- Shake or stir the varnish thoroughly before use.
- Apply an even coat using a suitable paint brush or suitable short-hair roller.
- Allow the first coat to dry for a minimum of 2 hours.
- Apply further coats as required. We recommend a minimum of 3 coats.
- Lightly sand between coats if required to achieve a smoother finish.
- For heavily used items, additional coats may be required.
- Allow the final coat to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before use.
When using a roller, a short-hair roller is recommended to help avoid bubbles forming in the varnish. Do not work at temperatures above 25°C when applying with a roller.
When applying successive coats, use a criss-cross application method and apply the final coat in the direction of the wood grain.
Maintenance and Care
Natural Finish Interior Varnish requires relatively simple maintenance. Wipe up spills as soon as possible and clean the surface with a damp cloth. A mild detergent can be used if required.
If the varnished surface begins to show signs of wear, lightly prepare the affected area and apply another coat of varnish as appropriate.
Using Liberon Palette Wood Dye with Natural Finish Interior Varnish
Liberon Palette Wood Dye can be used to colour the timber before applying Natural Finish Interior Varnish. This allows you to change or enhance the colour of bare wood while retaining the natural appearance of the grain.
Allow Palette Wood Dye to dry for a minimum of 8 hours before applying Natural Finish Interior Varnish.
Care is needed when applying the first coat over wood dye. Keep brush strokes to a minimum, as excessive brushing can disturb or lift the colour.
Palette Wood Dye can also be added to Natural Finish Interior Varnish to create individual colour tones. Always follow the manufacturer’s current instructions regarding the maximum amount of dye to add.
Liberon Varnish for Furniture
Liberon Natural Finish Interior Varnish is an excellent choice when a durable protective finish is required for wooden furniture.
It can be used on both modern and antique furniture and is particularly useful for pieces that receive regular handling or everyday use. The varnish helps protect the timber against scratches and stains while maintaining a natural appearance.
For furniture restoration, always ensure the existing finish is compatible before varnishing. Where necessary, remove old finishes and prepare the timber back to a clean, sound surface.
Liberon Varnish for Interior Woodwork
As well as furniture, Liberon Natural Finish Interior Varnish can be used on many types of interior woodwork, including doors, skirting boards, work surfaces and panelling.
Its water-based formulation makes it convenient for interior projects, while the Matt and Satin options allow you to choose the appearance that best suits your room and timber.
