How to Use Liberon Gilt Cream

1. Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust and grease.
2. Test the Gilt Cream on a small, inconspicuous area first.
3. Apply a small amount using a soft Lint free cloth, finger or suitable brush.
4. Work the cream into the raised details, carvings or areas you wish to highlight.
5. Allow the product to dry for a minimum of 4 hours and either leave matt or buff to a shine.
6. Buff gently with a clean, soft cloth to develop the desired sheen.
7. Brushes can be cleaned using white spirit.

For a more subtle decorative effect, apply a small amount and build the colour gradually. This gives greater control when working on antique furniture and delicate decorative pieces.

Gilt Creams may be reactivated or thinned with turpentine or good quality white spirit.

Does Gilding Wax come off?

Gilding Wax is very soft but when it is fully cured or dried, it creates a solid finish. If it does rub off you can simply re-apply over the existing finish to touch up areas or revive them.

Can you wax over Gilding Wax?

You can use a good quality wax finish on top of a gilding paste but it is not always needed. If you would like to wax, ensure this is your final finish and you are happy with the results of what you have just gilded as this will be a seal coat. If you are going to wax with a seal coat, ensure the gilding wax is fully dried for at least a week, as if it is still soft, it can remove the gilding.

Is Gilding Wax waterproof?

I would not recommend using this product outside as it is designed for interior use and rain will remove the finish. Also it is not recommended to use on interior areas where there is water i.e. on sinks etc.

How do you clean equipment after using Gilding Cream?

You can clean your brushes and equipment using white spirit.

My Gilt Cream has dried, what can I do?

Simply use turpentine or good quality white spirit and try to work this into your paste to soften it. Do not use too much, try to soften with a small amount at a time.
