Description
Annie Sloan Rodmell Chalk Paint is a sophisticated, dusty damson purple inspired by the atmospheric purple-blue shades of twilight. With its muted depth and elegant character, Rodmell is a beautiful choice for furniture painting, upcycling and creating a more considered, sophisticated interior.
Rodmell was developed in collaboration with Charleston Farmhouse, the historic home of the Bloomsbury group, and takes inspiration from the painterly colours found throughout Charleston.
Its complex purple tone works particularly well when you want a colour that feels rich and interesting without being as bold as a bright purple.
Why Choose Rodmell Chalk Paint?
- Sophisticated dusty damson purple
- Inspired by atmospheric twilight colours
- Developed in collaboration with Charleston Farmhouse
- Ideal for vintage and traditional furniture
- Excellent for furniture painting and upcycling
- Works beautifully in elegant and creative interiors
- Can be paired with cool shades for a calming scheme
- Looks striking against warmer tones
- Suitable for layered and decorative furniture finishes
- Available in 120ml tester pots and 1 litre tins
Rodmell is particularly versatile because its muted purple can be treated almost like a neutral. Use it with cooler shades for a calm, contemplative look or contrast it with warmer colours to make the purple more prominent.
How to Use Chalk Paint
- For best results apply the paint with either a chalk paint brush or flat brush.
- Once you have finished painting, we always recommend using either an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Wax or chalk paint Lacquer to seal and finish. Apply with a wax brush or soft cloth.
- You can use a Sanding pad to smooth the paint or create an aged effect.
- Please be aware that the colour shades may look different on your computer screen to real life. For a true representative we strongly advise to use the hand painted colour card.
- We offer all paints in either a 120 ml tester pot or 1 litre tins.
- A one litre tin will cover approximately 13 square metres.

Colours That Complement Rodmell
Rodmell works particularly well with Paris Grey, Versailles, Firle and Olive. Pairing it with cooler colours creates a calm, sophisticated scheme, while warmer shades can provide contrast and bring out the richness of the purple.
For a particularly interesting colour combination, Rodmell can also be paired with Greek Blue and Original, as used in Annie Sloan’s Charleston-inspired decorative collection.

Rodmell Compared with Other Annie Sloan Purple Colours
Rodmell is a good choice if you want a muted, sophisticated purple rather than a strong or highly saturated shade.
Rodmell is a dusty damson purple with atmospheric blue-purple undertones. It has a refined, slightly faded quality that works particularly well on vintage and decorative furniture.
Tyrian Plum is considerably deeper and warmer, with a rich dark reddish-purple character.
Old Violet offers another purple option but creates a different look from Rodmell’s dusty damson colouring.
If you’re looking for something particularly elegant and understated, Rodmell is the strongest choice of the three.
