Honfleur is a versatile choice for furniture upcycling, particularly when you want a rich brown finish with plenty of warmth. It works well on traditional, rustic and country-style furniture, as well as creating contrast when paired with lighter colours.

Why Choose Honfleur Chalk Paint?

  • Rich, warm chocolate-brown colour
  • Inspired by the French town of Honfleur
  • Ideal for traditional and rustic furniture
  • Excellent for country-style interiors
  • A versatile colour for furniture upcycling
  • Works beautifully with lighter neutrals and brighter colours
  • Can be distressed to create an aged, natural finish
  • Available in 120ml tester pots and 1 litre tins

Honfleur pairs particularly well with softer neutrals such as Old White, Original, Country Grey and French Linen. It can also be combined with stronger colours to create contrast and more decorative furniture finishes like Scandinavian Pink, Antibes Green or pastel colours like Duck Egg Blue or Antoinette.

Honfleur Compared with Other Brown and Neutral Chalk Paint Colours

Honfleur is a particularly good choice if you want a warm, earthy brown rather than a grey or pale neutral.

Honfleur is a rich, warm chocolate brown that works particularly well with traditional, rustic and country-style furniture.

Coco is a softer, lighter brown with a more muted and neutral appearance.

French Linen is a soft khaki grey, making it a cooler and lighter alternative to Honfleur.

Country Grey is another softer neutral option, with a natural grey appearance rather than Honfleur’s rich brown tone.

How to Use Chalk Paint

Honfleur Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan is named after the harbour town in Normandy.  This colour has been inspired by the rich warm brown shades found in the rustic French countryside. It works well on vintage pieces and also is widely used in mid century Modern design furniture, like stylish sideboards to ladder bookcases.

  • For best results apply the paint with either a chalk paint brush or flat brush.
  • Once you have finished painting, we always recommend using either an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Wax or chalk paint Lacquer to seal and finish. Apply with a wax brush or soft cloth.
  • You can use a Sanding pad to smooth the paint or create an aged effect.
  • Please be aware that the colour shades may look different on your computer screen to real life. For a true representative we strongly advise to use the hand painted colour card.
