Brummer Wood Filler Colours
Brummer Stopping Wood Filler is available in a selection of shades to help achieve a close match with the surrounding timber.
- White
- Pine
- Teak
- Light Oak
- Natural Oak
- Medium Oak
- Medium Mahogany
- Dark Mahogany
- Dark Oak
- Black
Choosing a colour close to the surrounding wood can help the repair blend into the finished surface. Brummer Wood Filler can also be stained with a suitable wood stain once dry to achieve a different shade.
How to Use Brummer Stopping Wood Filler
For the best results, the wood should be properly prepared before applying the filler.
1. Prepare the Wood
Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free from oil, grease and dust. Smooth surfaces should be lightly sanded with medium-grade sandpaper to provide a suitable key.
2. Apply the Filler
Using a suitable filling knife, work Brummer Stopping Wood Filler firmly into the hole, crack or damaged area. Leave the filler slightly proud of the surrounding surface so it can be sanded flat once dry.
3. Fill Deeper Repairs
For deeper holes or repairs, apply the filler in layers rather than attempting to fill the entire depth at once. Allow at least 2 hours between layers to allow the previous layer to dry.
4. Allow to Dry
Allow the filler to dry thoroughly before sanding or applying a decorative finish. Drying time can vary depending on the depth of the repair and surrounding conditions.
Sanding and Finishing
Once completely dry, Brummer Stopping Wood Filler can be sanded to a smooth, flat finish. The repaired area can then be finished to match the surrounding wood.
Depending on the project, the filled area can be:
- Painted
- Stained
- Varnished
- Lacquered
- French polished
Always test your chosen stain, polish, varnish or other finish on a small inconspicuous area first, as the filled area may absorb the finish differently from the surrounding timber.
Interior and Exterior Wood Repairs
Unlike many standard wood fillers, Brummer Stopping Wood Filler is suitable for both interior and exterior wood repairs. Its weather-resistant formulation makes it useful for repairs to exterior timber such as wooden doors, windows, decking and garden furniture.
For exterior repairs, ensure the filled area is properly finished and protected with a suitable exterior paint, stain or other wood finish once the filler has dried.
Questions and Answers.
Do you offer Brummer green label exterior wood filler?
Brummer stopping exterior wood filler has now been combined with the interior filler as a two in one product. This is perfect as being dual use, you can use this on so many more jobs and you no longer have to buy separate interior and exterior. As we are one of the leading brummer wood filler stockists in the UK, we offer the full range including all colours in 250g tubs.
What is Brummer wood filler drying time?
On average brummer coloured wood filler takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour to dry depending on the temperature and humidity, although it is usually best to leave for around 24 hours before adding a varnish or paint finish.
What colours are available from the Brummer range?
This coloured paste wood filler is available in White, Pine, Teak, Light Oak, Natural Oak, Medium Oak, Dark Oak, Medium Mahogany, Dark Mahogany and Black (previously names Ebony). We offer all these colours in 250g blue tins with free UK delivery over £20.
The Brummer Wood Filler contents are stiff, and virtually solid in the tin. Is there a way to soften this for use?
If stiff or hard in tin, you can soften it with a little paint thinner. Always test in a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure you are happy with the final result.
Please Note
Always test Brummer Wood Filler on a small, inconspicuous area before completing a repair. The filler may stain or accept varnish differently from the surrounding wood and may appear darker after finishing.
Clean filling tools in water immediately after use. Store in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed and protect from frost.
