Description
Colron Wax Remover is made using a blend of solvents formulated to remove old traditional finishes from wood. It is designed to dissolves away the old finish without damaging the wood. It dissolves away old wax, shellac, lacquer, oil and natural varnish however the mild formulation will not affect the natural sheen of the wood. Colron Wax Remover should always be used in preference to strong paint strippers unless the finish to be removed is paint, polyurethane varnish, cellulose etc. Colron Wax Remover is recommended for use on all wood types including antique and fine furniture.
How to use Colron Wax Remover
Removing the finish back to bare wood:
- Wearing suitable gloves, pour a small amount of the liquid into a wide mouthed jar and dip a small piece of medium steel Wool into the liquid.
- Start rubbing a generous amount in the direction of the grain working on about one square foot at a time.
- The finish will become ‘sticky’ and dirty as it dissolves the old finish.
- Keep applying more liquid, rubbing gently.
- When the finish is fully dissolved, wipe it off with a clean cloth.
- Now take a clean piece of medium grade Steel Wool dipped in fresh Colron Wax Remover and wipe over the entire surface to remove lap marks.
- Leave to dry thoroughly and finish off by rubbing briskly with clean, steel Wool.
- Remove the dust with a clean cloth and you area ready to apply a finish.
Removing wax and oil build up, leaving the existing varnished or French polished surface intact:
- Apply Colron Wax Remover to a clean cloth or fine Steel Wool (Grade 0000).
- Rub the soaked cloth or steel wool gently over the surface.
- The wax and oil will now dissolve away.
- Wipe with a clean cloth leaving the surface finish intact.
Please note –
CLEAN-UP – Clean spills with cloths soaked in white spirit. Dispose of used wire wool carefully, outside the home.

Colron Wax Remover may damage rubber, lineoleum, polystyrene, plastic, vinyl tiles, glass fibre, some man-made fibres, spectacles and watch glasses.
STORAGE – Store upright in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat and sources of ignition.
Ensure container is fully resealed after use.
Always store in ambient conditions away from temperature extremes. Protect from frost. Store above 50C.
The shelf life of the product in airtight containers will be at least 3 years.

What is the best finish to use after using Colron Wax Remover?
This will depend on how far you have cleaned your wood. If you have cleaned back to the bare wood then you may want to consider a finish like Colron Beeswax or Colron Danish oil to protect the surface. If you have just removed the build up of wax but still retained the original finish then you can use Colron Finishing wax or any of the other wax finishes that we supply.
Do you have a product to remove build up of dirt without damaging the patina on the wood?
Colron wax remover is a very good product for removing most grime and dirt but it can also be quite abrasive if left too long. If you are looking to remove the build up of wax but still keep the original finish and patina then priory polishes polish reviver is a better option. This is a mild abrasive that works extremely well in reviving the original finish to a high shine without damaging your finish.
