Repairing scratches, dents and small damage

The first stage is to repair small areas of damage using the Repair King Wax Filler Sticks.

The wax filler can be used to fill scratches, small dents, screw holes, chips and other minor damage to wood.

Simply chip a small amount of wax from the filler stick and press it into the damaged area using the supplied applicator. If the wax is cold, warming it slightly between your fingers can make it easier to work.

Remove any excess using the edge of the applicator and then buff the repaired area with a clean cloth.

Cleaning and reviving antique furniture

Once small repairs have been completed, use Priory Polishes Polish Reviver to remove accumulated dirt, grime and other surface contamination while helping to revive the existing finish.

Shake the Polish Reviver well before use and apply sparingly using the supplied fine cotton buffing cloths.

For more heavily soiled surfaces, the ultra-fine 0000 steel wire wool can be used damp with the Polish Reviver.

Always work with the grain of the wood.

Once applied, use firm pressure with the buffing cloth to lift out the dirt and remove excess product.

Older or particularly dirty furniture may require several applications.

Using Liquid Wax

After cleaning and reviving the furniture, use Priory Polishes Liquid Wax on scratches, carvings and dry areas of timber such as backboards and furniture interiors.

Shake well before use and apply sparingly using a soft dry cloth. A brush can be useful for getting into carvings and other difficult areas.

Lightly remove excess wax with a clean dry cloth, working with the grain wherever possible.

Allow the Liquid Wax to dry for approximately 30 minutes before buffing with a clean cloth.

Do not use furniture wax inside drawers where clothes are stored.

Using Finishing Wax

Once the dirt has been removed and the original finish has been revived, use Priory Polishes Finishing Wax Polish to enhance the colour and sheen while providing a protective wax finish.

Apply a small amount evenly using either the supplied buffing cloth or fine 0000 wire wool.

Work in the direction of the wood grain where possible and remove excess product lightly.

Allow the wax to dry for approximately 10 minutes, then buff with a soft dry cloth until the desired sheen is achieved.

Several thin applications can be used where additional depth of colour and sheen is required.

Once restored, the Finishing Wax can also be reapplied periodically to help maintain the appearance of the furniture and protect the timber from drying out.
