How to use Antiquax Leather Re-Colouring Balm

Before applying the balm, the leather should be clean and free from dirt and grime. For best results, particularly on dirty leather, clean the surface first with a suitable leather cleaner.

  1. Lightly wipe the leather with a slightly damp cloth to remove surface dirt and grime.
  2. Always test the balm on an unseen area first to make sure the colour is suitable.
  3. Apply a small amount of balm and rub it into the leather using a circular motion using a Lint-Free Cloth.
  4. Allow the balm to penetrate the leather for approximately 5 minutes.
  5. Once dry, buff the surface with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
  6. If a darker colour is required, apply another thin coat and allow it to dry before buffing.

The more balm that is applied, the darker the leather will become. This allows you to build up the colour gradually rather than applying a heavy coat all at once.

After re-colouring, it is recommended that Antiquax Leather Cream is applied to help protect the leather from future fading and damage.

Choosing the right leather balm colour

Antiquax Leather Re-Colouring Balm is available in three colours:

  • Black – suitable for black leather furniture, clothing, shoes and other leather goods.
  • Dark Brown – ideal for darker brown leather and many traditional leather furniture finishes.
  • Cream – suitable for lighter-coloured leather.

Always test the selected colour on an inconspicuous area before treating the entire item. If you are unsure, it is better to build the colour gradually with thin coats rather than applying too much balm at once.

Where can the Leather Re-Colouring Balm be used?

Antiquax Leather Re-Colouring Balm is suitable for a wide range of finished leather, including:

  • Leather sofas and armchairs
  • Leather furniture
  • Car and automotive leather interiors
  • Leather jackets and clothing
  • Leather shoes and boots
  • Handbags and other leather goods
  • Saddles and bridles
  • Harnesses and other equine leather

It is particularly useful where leather has become faded, worn, dry or scratched through regular use, sunlight, direct heat or abrasion.

Do not use on suede or nubuck. The balm will also not penetrate newly lacquered leather. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area before use.
