Description
Polyvine Heavy Duty Wood Varnish is composed of a water-based dispersion of cross-linking polyurethane copolymer with surfactants, waxes, and rheology modifying agents. This Interior wood varnish creates an ultra-hard, high quality finish in either a satin or dead flat. This dries to a crystal clear film for interior surfaces requiring a high level of protection such as working surfaces and areas of high wear.
Polyvine Heavy Duty Wood Varnish is ideal for use on wood surfaces such as tables, bookshelves, chairs, desks, kitchen cabinets, work surfaces, to give an extremely hard clear protective coating with a high degree of heat, water, chemical and abrasion resistance.
Dries to a satin finish, which is capable of withstanding heavy wear and abrasion after 16 hours curing, in such areas as Homes, Hotels, Restaurants and Bars.
How to use Polyvine Heavy Duty Wood Varnish
Preparation
- Ensure the wood surface is clean and free from grease, wax or polish.
- White spirit or sugar soap should be used as cleaning agents. Sugar soap should be rinsed off well with clean water and allowed to dry.
- If water has been used on bare wood this can raise the grain of the wood. The surface then needs to be sanded and vacuumed before coating.
- The wood should first be sanded to provide a key.
- Interior Heavy Duty Wood Varnish should not be applied over uncured oil base paint as this may cause discoloration. Older painted wood, where the paint itself may fail, should be stripped using a hot air gun or a chemical paint stripper, sanded and cleaned prior to coating. When applied over an emulsion/latex paint, it is possible that Interior Heavy Duty Wood Varnish can draw certain stains through the paint which were not otherwise visible. In this case a stain sealer should be used.
Application
- Polyvine Heavy Duty Wood Varnish can be applied by brush, spray or roller.
- Apply 2 or 3 coats. On softwood, light sanding in between coats may be necessary, if there is any raising of the grain.
- Allow 2 hours in between coats and 16 hours after final coat before full use.
- Do not use in temperatures below 5 degrees C/40 degrees F or in very high humidity. Lower temperatures will slow the final cure time.
- For a high level of protection and stain resistance apply 2 coats of satin, then 1 coat of dead flat.
Please note –
- Always apply to a test area before starting work.
- Appearance may vary according to the colour and type of wood and the number of coats.
- Do not apply over uncured oil paints.
- COVERAGE – 10-20 sq m per litre
- DRYING TIME – 30-60 mins
- RE-COAT TIME – 1-2 hrs
- CURING TIME – 16 hours in average conditions
- CLEAN UP – Any equipment used can be cleaned using soap and water before the clear coat dries. Wipe any excess off surfaces with a damp cloth. Any dried deposits will need a paint stripper to remove them.
