Rustins Knotting is used for sealing knots, resinous and creosoted timber to prevent bleeding through paint film. It is for application to bare wood on clean knots prior to priming or painting to prevent discolouration of paint film.

Description

Rustins Knotting is based on pure shellac and alcohol; it is naturally brown in colour. It is for application to bare wood on clean knots prior to priming or painting to prevent discolouration of paint film. Use under oil-based and knotting-compatible water-based coatings. It is Fast drying, prevents discolouration of paints and is used on interior and exterior use.

How to use Rustins Knotting

1. The surface must be clean, bare and sanded smooth.
2. Clean off any excess resin using white spirit and allow to dry.
3. A heat gun may be used (taking care not to char the wood) to draw-out excess resin, then scrape away.
4. If there are cracks or holes around the knot, fill with Wood filler and allow drying. Sand smooth prior to applying Knotting.
5. Shake well before use
6. Apply the knotting using a brush liberally over the knot and surrounding area.
7. Coats Apply 2 coats.
8. Do not sand after application knotting.
9. Allow 1 hour between coats and allow 1 hr after final coat before applying primer.


Please note
The ideal application Temperature is 15-25°C. Do not use below 10°C or in conditions of high humidity.
Coverage is 10-12 sq. m per litre, 1 coat, depending on the absorbency of the surface.
It is compatible with most types of oil-based wood primers
If the knot needs filling, apply Rustins Woodfiller and sand smooth before applying Knotting.
Use Methylated Spirits to clean brushes and equipment.
