Polyvine Wood Dye is a quick-drying, water-based wood dye designed to colour and enrich timber while allowing the natural character of the wood grain to remain visible.

It penetrates the wood to produce a rich depth of colour and has been specially formulated to minimise unsightly overlap marks, helping to create an even and lustrous finish.

Polyvine Wood Dye is suitable for both interior and exterior wood, including hardwood and softwood. After application, the dye should be protected with a suitable clear Polyvine varnish for added durability and protection.

How to Use Polyvine Wood Dye

1. Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free of any previous finishes, wax, oil, grease and dust etc.
2. Stir before use, do not shake.
3. Apply liberally with a brush or clean lint free cotton cloth and wipe off any excess immediately, working with the grain wherever possible.
4. For a lighter shade, the wood dye may be diluted with water.
5. For a stronger colour apply a second coat after 4 hours.
6. Make sure you have sufficient wood dye to finish the work.
7. If more than one tin is required, mix the contents together in a clean container to ensure uniform colour.
8. We recommend protecting with a Polyvine water-based varnish after leaving to dry overnight.

This Wood Dye is a quick-drying. The drying time is approximately 45 minutes but can 1–2 hours, depending on conditions. The recommended re-coat time is approximately 4 hours. Temperature, humidity, ventilation, application thickness and the type of timber can all affect drying time.

How Much Does Polyvine Wood Dye Cover?

The Wood Dye provides coverage of approximately 10–20 square metres per litre, depending on the surface and its absorbency. Porous timber may require more product than a smooth, less absorbent surface.

Can I use Polyvine Wood Dye over an existing finish?

The surface should be free from previous finishes, wax, oil, grease and dust before applying the Wood Dye. Existing finishes should therefore be removed and the timber properly prepared first.
