Description

Mylands Wax polish is used by antique restorers and professionals for over 100 years. Mylands wax has been produced using the purest and hardest natural waxes including Beeswax, Carnauba and Shellac Wax. This toluene free wax range offers a superb durability and shine on furniture and may also be used on metal and stone.

How to use Mylands Wax

  1. Mylands wax polish can be applied to bare timber or used over a base stain.
  2. If you are using a stain, it is recommended to use Light Fast Stains, Earth Stains or Water Based Stains.
  3. The stain must be fully dry before application of the wax.
  4. Mylands wax may also be applied over shellac based sealers.
  5. For application on antique or fine furniture apply the wax with a clean white lint-free cloth in thin coats and apply evenly. Allow to dry and buff to a fine finish with a clean lint-free cloth. Further applications may be made in the same manner (in thin coats) and will give increased hardness and shine.
  6. For application on unsealed bare wood, first seal the wood with a coat of Mylands 2000 Pale Shellac Sanding Sealer applied by brush or rubber and allow it to fully dry.
  7. When dry, apply the mylands furniture paste wax using 0000 grade wire wool to achieve the smoothest finish and allow it to dry for a few minutes.
  8. When dry, buff with a clean, dry lint-free cloth.
  9. Unsealed wood may be waxed without sealing, but this method will give a much lower shine.
  10. For application on lacquered wood, apply the wax with a clean white lint-free cloth and buff off almost immediately with a clean white lint-free cloth.

Questions and Answers

Can I use Mylands wax polish stripped pine on my antique pine furniture and is it a suitable colour?

Mylands wax polish is ideal for use on antique pine and the stripped pine colour can be a perfect choice. It adds a warmth to your pine, giving more of an antique feel and look. If you are looking for a more warmer golden brown tone, then you may want to consider the colour Antique Brown. If you want to keep the pine as natural in tone as possible then the Clear Wax offers a deep wax shine without changing the colour too much. For a dark shade, then the best option would be Rustic Brown. As we are Mylands wax polish stockists, we have all the colours available either on our website or in store.
