Description

Mylands Wood Finishing Oil can be used for all internal wood applications and exterior Teak. It combines the hard wearing properties of Tung Oil with quality oil resins to create a robust finish. Mylands Wood Finishing Oil is especially suited for kitchen and bathroom worktops, tables and other furniture which is in constant use. 

How to use Mylands Wood Finishing Oil

  1. Mylands Wood Finishing Oil may be used on new or previously finished timber. 
  2. For previously finished timber, Remove the old finish with paint and varnish remover.
  3. Old oiled or waxed surfaces should be cleaned with Mylands Special De-waxing Solution or slightly abraded with fine abrasive paper or steel wool.  
  4. The following stains are suitable under Wood finishing Oil: Light Fast Stains, Non Fade Stains, Water Based Stains, Earth Stains. The wood stain must be fully dry before application of the Wood Finishing Oil. 
  5. Apply a thin first coat of Mylands Wood finishing Oil with a clean lint-free cotton cloth and leave to dry overnight. 
  6. Then cut back lightly with 320 grit finishing paper or 0000 grade wire wool (for best results, use the paper first and then the wire wool) to achieve a flat surface for subsequent coats. 
  7. Apply further coats in similar manner to give build and finish required. 
  8. At least 3 -4 coats should be used on worktops to give adequate protection. 
  9. If required, on decorative furniture the oiled finish may be over-waxed, but a curing time of 7 days should be allowed prior to this.

Cleaning and Maintenance – Clean oiled surfaces with a damp cloth. For more soiled surfaces a small amount of liquid detergent may be added to the water. Old or worn oiled surfaces may be refurbished by abrading the surface and applying further coats of Mylands Wood finishing Oil. 


Please note 

Always test the Wood finishing Oil on an off-cut of timber or an inconspicuous area to ensure you are happy with the colour and finish before oiling the whole article. 

COVERAGE – On average per litre 10-12 m2 dependant on substrate absorbancy and method of application.

DRYING TIME – Touch dry Sanding / in 4 hours – Recoat in 12 hours (at 20°c).

CLEANING – Use White Spirit. Wash brushes immediately after use before the oil dries. 

STORAGE – Always replace the container lid, otherwise the oil could deteriorate. Store at a temperature above 5°C. 


Health and Safety 

Refer to Mylands Wood Finishing Oil MSDS before use. Rags used for Wood Finishing Oil should not be left rolled or screwed up as they can spontaneously combust. Either spread out to dry or put in a container with water. Tung Oil is a component of Wood Finishing Oil and is extracted from nuts and could cause an allergic reaction.
